For academic & newsroom libraries

A verified-data library for researchers, students, and journalists.

ctzn.pub licenses the way academic libraries already buy Social Explorer, Sage Data, or Statista — a subscription library of pre-verified, provenance-linked survey answers and interactive articles, with a free public layer and an API for computational researchers.

What's live today

The Reader and Workbench tiers build directly on tools already running in production, free to use right now — this is the direction, not a mockup.

66
published essays, each survey-weighted and sourced — browse the library
5
interactive atlases spanning politics, health, and trade
2
early analysis-builder prototypes already running in production — a first look at what the Workbench's compose-from-data experience becomes

Three tiers

Priced by institution size. Pricing available on request during a pilot conversation.

Reader

Search and read the full library, with provenance.

Campus-wide access to the full essay and atlas library, plus the growing card catalog as it ships, with every figure traceable to its source, method, and data vintage.

  • Full-text and semantic search across essays, atlases, and cards
  • Every figure sourced: dataset, vintage, and method visible on click
  • Campus-wide IP-range access — no per-seat login required

Workbench

Compose new documents from verified components.

For researchers and instructors who want to build on the library, not just read it: compose briefs, articles, and slide decks from verified data components.

  • Compose briefs and decks from existing charts and analyses
  • Swap variables, geographies, years, and subgroups on an existing archetype
  • Export to HTML, PDF, or a presentation deck

API

Programmatic and MCP access for computational research.

For research computing groups and newsroom tooling that want to query the catalog directly — including from an agent.

  • REST access to cards, claims, and chart payloads
  • MCP server access for AI research agents
  • Graph-traversal access to the catalog (datasets → methods → articles)

Built for how libraries actually provision access

Campus-wide IP access

IP-range allowlisting as the entitlement mechanism — no per-seat login required for on-campus access, which is how most academic libraries provision a reference database first.

SSO

Single sign-on for pilot institutions today; OpenAthens/Shibboleth federation is a fast-follow once an institution needs it.

Usage reporting

Per-institution usage reporting for renewal conversations. Not COUNTER-compliant today — that's a real standard we don't claim yet. We log usage events from day one so compliant reporting can follow.

Founding-partner pilot program

We're looking for 2–3 pilot institutions — ideally where a faculty member already relies on this kind of survey work — to help shape the Reader and Workbench tiers in exchange for founding-partner pricing and early access. In return, we ask for feedback and (with your permission) a citable case study.
