County Health Rankings publishes a drug overdose death rate for 2020-2022 in 2,010 of the 3,144 counties and county-equivalents on this map. It withholds the rate for 1,132 counties that recorded fewer than 10 deaths and publishes no death-based measure at all for 2 more, so 1,134 counties are blank, and they hold 3.4% of residents (ACS 2019-2023).
The other 11 measures, grouped by topic in the controls, come from County Health Rankings & Roadmaps, the Census Bureau's American Community Survey and NOAA, each with its own years. The legend and the tooltip give the reason each blank county has no value.

- 1,132 counties. County Health Rankings withholds the rate where a county recorded fewer than 10 drug overdose deaths in 2020-2022.
- 2 counties. County Health Rankings 2025 publishes no measure built from death or birth records for Chugach and Copper River census areas, AK, which were split from Valdez-Cordova in 2019.
Each measure leaves its own set of counties blank, and the presidential returns on the election pages leave out others again, so two maps drawn at the same extent do not describe the same places. The table above counts the blanks for overdose deaths only.
The city maps on this site have no uninsured, inequality or commute measure, so county is the finest level at which the site draws them. It is also the finest level at which all three publishers here cover the whole country.
